This display by Mark Arpag features an eastern white cedar collected and trained over 35 years, estimated to be around 250 years old. Known as a yamadori, the tree’s naturally dwarfed form and compact chuhin shape evoke a Japanese aesthetic. Accompanying the cedar is a red spruce with delicate, slender trunks, embodying the character of a Japanese literati style. Together, the trees reflect Mark's deep connection to his heritage, family, and the Adirondack landscape.

This Coast Redwood, collected and initially styled by Bob Shimon, was acquired in 2016 and captivated its owner with its powerful trunk and distinctive deadwood. Inspired by the redwood forests seen in Return of the Jedi, the tree has since been shaped with guidance from Peter Tea. Together, they began refining the design in 2019 by thickening the lower branches to enhance its proportions. The bonsai is now displayed in an all-American setting, with native plants, an American container, and an American-crafted stand.
